Classic
Reach the bottom word in as few steps as you can. A perfect climb matches par. Hints cost one step. If you use up six steps beyond par, you fall off the ladder.
Forbidden
Same climb, but one letter is banned for the whole ladder. It will block the obvious route, so you need a detour.
Longest
No goal. You get 90 seconds to build the longest chain you can without repeating a word. Undo takes the last rung off if you hit a dead end.
Everyone gets the same three ladders each day, and a new set unlocks at your local midnight.
